Status of Build America Bonds (BABs) program

Q

Will BABs continue after 2010?

R.S., Missouri

A

James A. Klotz responds:

The House of Representatives has already approved legislation that would extend the Build America Bonds (BAB) program for two years.

The House measure will extend the BAB program through 2012, while lowering the subsidy payments the federal government makes to issuers from 35% to 32% in 2011 and 30% in 2012.

The Senate has not, as of yet, voted on this bill.
